"Out-of-hours" services for Bixter patients will be delivered by NHS Shetland. Patients needing advice and/or treatment between the hours of 5.30pm and 8.00am will access this by telephoning NHS24 (08454 242424). You will be able to speak to a trained NHS24 nurse who will arrange for you the most appropriate service for your current need. This may range from getting advice from the nurse, through being advised to see your own GP the following morning (arrangements have been made for early morning appointments to be available for this purpose), or you seeing a doctor at the Gilbert Bain Hospital, or you being visited by the duty GP. If your condition requires immediate admission to hospital this will done by the ambulance & paramedics. As part of this same change in "Out-of-hours" arrangements the Bixter Health Centre will no longer be open on Saturdays. NHS Shetland is providing "walk-in" GP Clinics at the Gilbert Bain Hospital on Saturday morning. GP Surgeries at Bixter will now include early morning appointments (9.10am - 9.30am) for both urgent matters referred by NHS24 (on Tuesdays this will take place in Walls) and for patients wishing to be seen before going to work. Bixter Health Centre will open every Tuesday for arranging appointments,
being seen by the Practice Nurse, ordering medicines and collecting
medicines ordered previously. You will not be able to order and collect
medicines on the same Tuesday. Patients needing to be seen by the
GP will continue to be seen in Walls on a Tuesday. |
